Why are we asking teachers to write hypertext fiction?

Hypertext literature hightens our awareness of the rhetorical choices that readers and writers make when they use links.

Here's a place to start in thinking about how hypertext stories are different than printed stories: Lies

Wow, what an interesting and provocative use of hypertext writing. I think writing truth and lies like this would be a great way to motivate students to write and to teach them about the characteristics of hypertext writing and many of the issues involved--reader interactivity, how much control to give to the reader, the importance of imagining the reader's perspective, etc.
