I'll echo some of the thoughts above -- there is a richness to the story.
It occurs to me that you could use more hyperlinks and weave the story around itself a bit more (if you were of that mind).
I always like seeing the concept maps with Hypertextopia and thinking about the connections and how we can maybe find ways to interconnect the text a bit more. It's another way to break out of a set way of thinking.
Thanks for sharing

The wish, " the granddaughter and grandmother have been able to grow with one another and share a bond that is based on their mutual adult interests." really stands out strong to me. The statement also takes me into a much deeper reflection state from just a golden memory of a wonderful grandmother. I am impressed by your transparent description of your relationship with your grandmother. I admire your courage and honestt of sharing your struggle of the conflict between the yearning for growth and not satisfied with the way being treated. I hope I can get your permission to share your story in a parenting workshop in my school if I get the chance to run one.

I joined this Ning in response to Paul Allison's tweet invitation (twitter) and am glad to have done so. This story is rich with revelation for me and made me want more (I guess the nature of this style is that there is a set arc as I am reading descriptions of "shards" and similar terms.

The imagery was strong and evocative and really made me feel for you and for your grandmother and for the idea of growing up while someone wants you to stay back where the relationship was easier and the roles were clearer.

I really liked the story. It reminds me about how things change in adolescence with parents, grandparents. I see this as great story to explore your relationship with your grandma. I see these hypertextopia writing as a way for all of us to explore relationships we have had during our life and reflect upon them.

Beth, like I commented to you yesterday what stood out to me was your honesty. I also feel a bit sad that it seems your relationship with your grandmother was unfulfilled. You are a very descriptive writer and I almost felt like I was on some of those family trips with you. I see you also wrapped up the story as we discussed yesterday. KUDOS for you and thank you for sharing.

Your story includes so many different descriptions of feelings that I think many readers will be able to relate to some part of it. I've had a similar experience but have never written about it. It is great that you feel comfortable enough with yourself and your history that you can share this with others.

Beth,
In reading your story, what stood out for me the most was your response to your grandmother when she had put your clothes away for you. In reading your story I was able to relate to looking back at a relationship with a close family member and learning from it whether the experience was positive, negative or both. Your story was warm and heartfelt and after reading it, I just wanted to walk over to you and give you the biggest hug filled with compassion and understanding. Thank you for sharing your lovely story.
