One of my seven modalities in the tumblr is an essay I wrote about
Key Elements.
The audio clip I created is my
memory of the typical conversation with my mom in my youth
The chat part I had was
my sister and me recalled our conversatio…

I experienced the facinating power of "loop" today. I wonder if I can discover the invisible bondage on me otherwise. As I shared in the group what I was reminded of the impact of learning Chinese brush painting, I was excited and that seems to lead me to see what behind the curtain. How great impact a culture can be on our perspectives, way of thinking, and value system! I don't think my Chinese painting teacher was ever conscious about how he shaped my mind and behavior. And how that effect wo…

To be a transparent learner, a term I heard from Julie C. mentioned this morning and in other occasions, is something I did not give further thought until this morning. "A life-long learner" is a term we all are familiar with, and that is also a goal that we want our students become; whereas a transparent learner seems to be a new concept. It is not really new. It is about know what you know and know what you don't know and admit that's all you know. But why it is hard to admit that sometimes? Y…

It usually seems like a big cloud over my head at the beginning when I try to learn a new tool in this summer tech class. Gradually it becomes clear to me and makes sense to me more when I play around. Still I wish I had accessed and played with computer or any sort of tech before. I guess I just never like tech, or maybe I have been a tech phobia one way or another and just don't think I can manage any sort of tech well. I somehow perceive that tech stuff belongs to men not to women. In my fami…

I like what Julie M. said this morning that we can consider using tech as another way to teach students. I also have been wondering if incorporating tech into teaching or counseling is better. Yes, one of the advantages of tech is helping speed up process, like what Paul mentioned, a teacher or peers can respond to student's work faster. Then, my question will be: Is a faster process usually better? Doesn't that some aspects of life just need time? Why organic food become pupolar now? Isn't beca…

What is the purpose of commenting each other? I still ask myself such a question after sharing voice thread projects with each other and reflecting on using it. Since sharing the conversational comments is the major function of voice thread, I am curious what effect will happen after commenting each other takes place.
I examine my own experience of using voice thread, I feel I like the activity of writing about a picture because there are many clues in the picture to lead me in writing. I like…

I am not satisfied with the completion of the piece of work I just put on the voice thread. I noticed that there are a lot of unprocessed things in my mind. There are also a lot of things I am not sure how they connect with each other. There are also issues I'd like to explore, if I get the chance one day. This is the first time I really sit down to work on my experience of the trip my husband and I took to Taiwan last year. Although I did my journal almost everyday when I was on the trip. I am…

It is very interesting in reading the book. It helps me to learn more about what teachers are facing in their challenging teaching field. Since my training and work experience are more on the psychological aspect of human beings and school administration as a school counselor, I seem to know what teaching is about. The book takes me to a deeper level of understanding on the complicate, yet facinating, teaching job, especially involving with technology. Although I am still skepitcal about the imp…

I am not sure about what to do with those emails sent by twitter saying so and so are following you . . . I opened each email and check it out and found that there were two, Mat's and/or Wendy's or julia's, which I could not see anything, and there was one, I don't know who the person is and has four hundreds followers and I have no clue what he is talking about in his twitter. That made me feel my life become complicated due to the on-line activity, though I know this is part of my learning pro…

After finishing the May workshop on twitter, I never went back to ckeck my account. The first thing when I signed up this morning was to see the "image" or "avatar" I posted it there, "Oh my goodness!" was my first reaction. Just like the avatar I created for Ning, I was not really finished yet. So, I was not satisfied with them. But, I left them there. Why? there are more important things to do in the world. One day, maybe, I'll go back to change my avatar.

What a week! I am slowly getting there. I was feeling a little better this morning after reorganizing the map in the hypertextopia. I got most of the fragments out. I could not believe that I did throw them out, because I like to save things. Even though I am not used to work with digital things, I have to admit that the tech helps me quickly to construct and reconstruct.

This story, "
The Key and the Board" is my first try of using hypertextopia. It seems that I am given a useful key to unlock a door to get into a whole new world and I am also supported by a community, the NYC writing project team, that serves like cover boards to protect me not to be over-whelmed too much by the new world . . . You can also see
the map of my story.

I was thinking on my way back home and to Lehman what I can do with my hypertextopia. Am I too possessed by it just because we were told to publish it? What if I don't have to publish anything, will I still have the motivation to do it? I wonder if Paul and Julie intentionally ask us to publish it, just because they want to motivate us? Well, they have a good reason, too. They said it will get us to read each other's work and comment on each other. Yeah, they are fostering a learning environment…
