I read your piece--I was reminded of the movie One True Thing. Have you seen it? The daughter wants so badly to impress her father with her writing, but inevitably disappoints him. Meryl Streep is in it...I love Meryl Streep. So, thank you for making me think about Meryl Streep. Are you going to see Mamma Mia!? I am.
The last two lines are particularly powerful--silencing the inner critic, in order to be one's self. I like how you've brought in a lot of the things we've discussed as a group. Nice.
I took the time to really get through the verse and I have to say you have a careful way with language--that is--truly--and I wouldn't just gas you hear or swell your ego--poetic.
Your first piece "For Papi, From YoYo" is great! What really stood out for me was how tight and unified the piece is. You were really able to focus on the father-daughter relationship and make the direct connection to YoYo finding freedom through her voice in writing.
