Beth,
I share those same concerns. I only have a handfull of teachers whom are very computer literate. The others can be very computer phobic and feel that they need constant assistance. However, I think allowing them to play with the site themselves at home and then returning with questions or comments about the site will give them a sense of ownership and independence somehow and ease the phobia. I had also thought about creating some sort of worksheets over the summer for the staff to follow when I present these websites in the fall. This might give the teachers with not much technology experience a sense of guidance and support while they learn along the way.

I'm sure I don't live very far from you--I live in Prospect Heights near Brooklyn Museum. Where in Fort Greene do you live? How long does it take you to get here? It takes me about an hour and twenty minutes. It's nice to know there's a fellow Brooklynite within our group!

I live in Brooklyn as well, Fort Greene Brooklyn. The campus doesn't feel like a getaway for me but I'm glad it serves that purpose for you!

Who am I?
Good question. I think I'm still figuring that out. In the meantime, I'm a librarian, a teacher, a writer, a reader, a runner, a shopper, a yogi, a vegetarian, a cat lover...to be continued...

Take a Tumblr Tour of My Investigation of Social Networking

My Tumblr Exhibit explores the question: How can I best use social networking tools to accomplish my personal and professional goals? With that question in mind, this portfolio moves from my general musings on the impact I feel social networking can have on my relationship with my fellow school community members (Text, Video); to what resources I used to gain more information on how social networking--particularly Nings--can help create a viable learning community (Link, Chat); to more in-depth… Continue

Afternoon Day 10: Final Product Woes

Well, I started working on my final product, and I'm having some difficulties. I first put a question on Twitter to create my chat modality, but no one has responded yet. Then, I looked back at my looped writing piece and tried to decide what would be useable and what is not. I decided that I liked my quote and its explanation, as well as some parts of my dialogue, and so I thought I could combine these, with some editing, to create my text. So, I worked on that for a while and I think it is alm… Continue

Morning Day 10: Not so info overloaded

I did more research last night, and I feel less info overloaded. I realized that on Google Reader, I don't have to look at all of the RSS feeds for a search at once--I can look at the blog results, the news results, the podcast results, etc. separately, and for me, that is a lot less overwhelming. I sent a few things that I found to Tumblr, but I felt apprehensive and self-conscious in doing so. I guess I felt that others would look at what I had sent and wonder why I had chosen those pieces to… Continue

Afternoon Day 9: Google Reader

I set up my account in Google Reader, and started subscribing to feeds, and I feel a bit information overloaded. I now need to spend some time going through the feeds I subscribed to, but it seems overwhelming because they will just keep piling in automatically while I'm trying to look through the old ones. For someone who likes to take my time sorting and sifting through information, and who has to look at all the information that is presented to me, this seems like it will become an unwieldy t… Continue
